Tree Service in Candler, NC
West of Asheville, the city gives way fast to Hominy Valley โ farm fields and old homesteads along the creek, then hollows and coves climbing toward the Parkway ridgeline. Candler is where Buncombe's rural tree work lives, and it's some of our favorite ground.
Hominy Valley's Working Landscape
Candler's tree work has a different flavor from the city's. Out here it's less about the single specimen over the craftsman bungalow and more about working land: pasture reclamation, fencerow clearing, homesites on acreage, driveways cut up hollows, and storm damage across properties measured in acres rather than feet. The valley floor along Hominy Creek and its branches holds some of the county's oldest farmland โ places where the family has been cutting hay for generations and the trees along the field edges are part of the farm's infrastructure, not decoration.
The surrounding slopes are another story. The roads that climb out of the valley โ toward the Parkway, toward Avery Creek and the upper coves โ get steep in a hurry, and the lots up there are mountain lots in full: no access, big timber, views earned the hard way. We work both sides of that geography, and we bring the right equipment for each โ mowing and clearing machines in the valley, rigging gear and cranes on the slopes.
Helene in West Buncombe
Hominy Creek flooded hard in Helene, and the slopes around Candler took the wind the same as everywhere else in the county. The rural character of the damage made it different in one respect: with fewer municipal services reaching the far properties, more of the cleanup landed on landowners themselves. Plenty of Candler families cut their own roads clear and dragged brush to pile lines โ and then faced the part nobody has a chainsaw big enough for: the big downed timber, the hung trees on the back forty, the root balls like boulders.
That's most of what we do in Candler now. Debris haul-away from the 2024 cleanup, clearing storm-thrashed acres back into usable shape, and removal of the big hazardous trees that have been standing wrong ever since. The rural jobs tend to be bigger in scope but simpler to run โ good access, room to work, and landowners who know exactly what they want gone.
